Xbox Gears Up for Next-Gen Consoles: A Leap into the Cloud?

Xbox Gears Up for Next-Gen Consoles: A Leap into the Cloud?

Sarah Bond, Head of Xbox, confirms Microsoft’s focus on next-gen hardware and teases exciting news ahead.

Amidst rumors of a PlayStation 5 Pro release this year, Microsoft is reportedly “full speed ahead” on developing its next-generation consoles. Windows Central obtained a statement from Xbox Head Sarah Bond, which Microsoft has since confirmed, indicating a dedicated team is working on preserving legacy games for future generations.

“We are full speed ahead on our next generation of consoles, with the goal of delivering the biggest leap in generational performance we’ve ever seen,” Bond stated. This aligns with Microsoft’s earlier February 2024 announcement of its multi-platform game release strategy for Xbox.

Emphasizing Microsoft’s “investment in its next-gen roadmap,” Bond also hinted at “exciting hardware news coming this holiday season.” This could point to the rumored disc-less Xbox Series X digital console, expected in white at a lower price point ($50-$100 drop) between June and July, potentially unveiled at the annual Xbox Games Showcase.

Leaked documents from Microsoft’s antitrust lawsuit against the FTC suggest the next-gen Xbox will be a cloud-based console. However, it’s crucial to note that this information is unconfirmed and subject to change.
