Blizzard has implemented strict penalties for leaving matches in Overwatch 2 in a new update.
In Overwatch 2’s Season 10 update, Blizzard is cracking down on leaving matches in progress and implementing harsher punishments for offenders.
New Penalties for Leaving Matches:
In Unranked:
Leaving two matches out of the last 20: 5-minute queue ban
Leaving 10 matches out of the last 20: 48-hour ban
In Competitive:
Leaving 10 matches out of the last 20: Season ban
Blizzard stated in a press release:
We understand that not all match leaves are intentional, but these changes will help curb players who are intentionally leaving matches.
Wide Groups Feature for Easier Teaming Up:
Blizzard has also introduced the Wide Groups feature to allow players with friends of different Competitive ranks to team up. This mode allows a group of players with a wide range of skill levels to play together.
Longer Queue Times for Wide Groups:
Selecting this option will result in longer queue times for matchmaking due to the need to pair Wide Groups with similarly ranked teams to maintain fairness.
Combating Toxicity in Overwatch 2:
Blizzard is committed to reducing toxicity in Overwatch 2 with new additions:
Increased Avoid as Teammate List Capacity: From 3 to 10 players
Easier Reporting: The reporting UI has been updated.
Chat Ban for Offenders:
Players exhibiting toxic behavior that violates Blizzard’s code of conduct will have their in-game voice and text chat access revoked.
Account Unbans:
Banned players can only regain access to chat by exhibiting positive behavior in Overwatch 2 for an extended period.
Conclusion:
Blizzard is addressing the issues of match leaving and toxicity in Overwatch 2 seriously. The new update introduces stricter penalties for offenders and enables easier team-up for players with varying ranks.
