Activision has banned 27,000 Call of Duty accounts for cheating

In an effort to combat cheating in its popular Call of Duty games, Activision has banned 27,000 accounts. The company says that its improved detection systems and recent security updates are helping to identify and ban cheaters, and that players should expect more ban waves to come.

The bans come as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone enter Season 3, and as a free multiplayer trial was made available from April 4-8.

“Team Ricochet identified and banned over 27,000 accounts over the weekend through a series of enhanced detection systems,” Activision said in a statement. “With new security updates in place, the team expects further account bans to continue.”

Season 3 of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone adds six new 6v6 multiplayer maps, four of which are available at launch and two of which will be added later in the season. For Warzone, Season 3 brings back the popular Rebirth Island map and introduces the Resurgence mode, in which players can respawn as long as a teammate is still alive. Zombies mode also gets new content, including new story missions.
