CD Projekt Red migrates to Unreal Engine 5

CD Projekt Red, the developer of popular games such as The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, is migrating to Unreal Engine 5 for its future games. The company will be working with Epic Games to make the transition, which could have a significant impact on the quality and performance of its games.

In an interview with TheNeonArcade, Paweł Sasko, the game director for Cyberpunk 2077, confirmed that Epic Games is directly involved in the transition. He said that there is a lot of work to be done, especially on the gameplay side. The Red Engine was designed for specific tasks, and the development team needs to make sure that it can still build games exactly the way it wants to.

Sasko also highlighted the benefits of working on Unreal Engine 5. He said that the new engine provides a lot of capabilities for creating more immersive and realistic games. He also called the collaboration with Epic Games a valuable opportunity to learn from the company’s experienced engineers.

Despite the challenges of migrating to Unreal Engine 5, Sasko sees this collaboration as more of an opportunity than a challenge. He believes that this change can help CD Projekt Red make better games.

This collaboration comes as CD Projekt Red is developing its upcoming games, including the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. Using Unreal Engine 5 could help the studio deliver its new games with new levels of quality and features.
